I don’t consider myself a photographer or an artist but I know that contrast is powerful in the visual arts. Whether it is light and dark or a contrast of color or subject, images stand out in contrast. Contrast of a descriptive nature is often used as a means of motivation. For example, when the poor are contrasted with the rich, people are motivated to give.

Did your parents have some phrases that are stuck in your head? Sometimes that can be bad, but sometimes that can be very good. For example, the text that we are planning to study this week includes a line that says, “make straight paths for your feet.”

Years ago, I was taught that every child needs a healthy balance between support and challenge. Of course, no parent perfectly hits the nail on the head but it is wise to keep in mind. My wife, Amanda, leans toward support and I lean toward challenge.

I was very happy to be married. I was very nervous to be a parent. While Diane was expecting our firstborn, as you can probably imagine, I read a book.

Life is an interesting word. Like other words in the English language, there are multiple meanings. Life is a cereal. Life is a game. We can discuss the life of a cat. We can discuss the life of a carrot. We can talk about life and its opposite, death. We can tell a life-story.
