"If anything becomes more fundamental than God to your happiness, meaning in life and identity, then it is an idol." ~ Tim Keller, Counterfeit Gods
Remember Who You Have...
One of the ways we can overcome the temptations of idolatry is to remember who we are, Who we have and Who is present. There is a real and actual partnership/communion that takes place in the reception of the bread and the cup.
This reminder had specific application for the Corinthians who were participating in feasts to idols. Idols are nothing but there are beings behind the idolatry — and they are dangerous!
"Communion" with Christ and "communion" with demons is incompatible. The two are mutually exclusive. This first century warning applies 1900 years later; we may not be concerned about food offered to idols BUT, we should beware of idolatry.
"Worship is the final way to replace the idols of your heart." ~ Tim Keller
