“Yum…Ouch!”

Have you ever eaten something that tasted wonderful but then gave you an upset stomach? Sometimes the upset stomach is the result of overeating, I did this once with pickles. I really like pickles but too many of them is not a good idea. Sometimes the sour tummy is the result of not knowing what you were really eating, I did this with some green salsa. That it was green should have been a clue. Bible authors compared the word of God to tasty food. One wrote that the word is “sweeter than honey” (Ps. 119:103). But, what is sweeter than honey in the mouth can become bitter in the stomach. This happened to John, the author of Revelation. What did he mean by that? You know. It is sweet to know that evil will one day be removed from the world. Won’t it be wonderful when righteousness, peace and joy is the atmosphere for all people everywhere?! However, to get there, evil will need to be removed. Evil is like a cancer that requires drastic measures and those measures are often bitter. The assurance that God is good, that He wants what is good for people and that eternal goodness is available to all who will take it is the antacid for our souls. This week we’ll see a little of the sweet and the bitter in Revelation 10.
