Becoming a follower of Jesus, developing our relationship with Him and likeness to Him has many wonderful benefits. However, full disclosure requires a warning that there is also a struggle. Believers have an enemy. Our enemy is not identifiable by political party, lifestyle or orientation. In fact, Paul reminds us that “we wrestle not with flesh and blood.” In other words, our principal enemy is not in human form. Our enemy is the devil and his minions. He is currently the prince of the power of the air. He has a lot of experience with humans and has numerous tricks up his sleeve. He is a deceiver and the father of deception. He is the source of unhealthy doubt, division, hatred, racism, bitterness, unforgiveness and idolatry. He uses our culture, the media, pride, lust and our own temptations against us. He desires to defeat the purposes of God in this world. As we will see in Revelation 12, there is a day to come when he will lose a big battle in Heaven and be cast to the earth in a rage that the world has never seen. He is alive and active today. Thankfully, we have the resources to stand up and not fold up. The One who lives in you is greater than the deceiver who lives in the world. Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you!
