Wouldn’t that be nice? If it was the right track, it would be great. However, it seems like many people struggle with several tracks playing all at the same time. Some of those tracks are not helpful. Some tracks are not tracks we choose, but they keep intruding and can become very noisy at times. We are reminded in Romans 12 that we can be transformed by the renewing of the mind. Interestingly, modern science has revealed that new pathways in the brain can be formed by practice. Let’s try not to gloat over the fact that followers of Jesus have been practicing “disciplines” for hundreds of years that help form new neural pathways. With the assistance of the Holy Spirit and cooperation with Him, we can choose to think about what we are thinking about. We can pay attention to what we are really paying attention to. As we think about what we are thinking about, we can change what we are thinking about. Worship is one of the ways this is accomplished and it is one reason we often say that worship is not an event, it is lifestyle. We should worship God because He deserves all the glory. We should worship God because it is a command. We should also worship God because it is good for us. A steady practice of worship will bring our wandering minds back to Reality. More about that on Sunday.
