Recently I read, “We live in a Jesus-haunted but Biblically illiterate culture.” The author went on to describe how this combination creates an environment for believing the lies of the enemy. People have interest in Jesus but because they don’t know the Bible, they will believe anything they hear about Him. If we are going to worship Jesus “in truth,” we’ll need to know how He has described Himself in the Word. The One we read about in the Gospels is the same One we read about in Revelation. His appearance is different because He has the body of glorification rather than the body of humiliation, but He is the same Person. John the Baptist referred to Him as the “Lamb of God that would take away the sin of the world,” and John the apostle described Him as the “Lamb that had been slain.” Jesus is also the Light that has sent light to every person; that is why we are “haunted.” He wants to be known, loved and received. He wants us to know that the sacrifice has been made to redeem us from sin. He wants us to know that He loves us so much that came for us. He wants us to know that He is at the right hand of God the Father and that the future has been entrusted to His hands. The Spirit of Jesus is at work in the world, let’s help people know Him accurately.
