It shouldn’t be that hard to remember, I experience it every time I go out to my garden and every time I get bit by a mosquito; the whole created order is groaning, along with humanity, and waiting for the final redemption. I forget this sometimes. While the humans are the ones that Christ died for, the whole created order matters to God and is awaiting the final redemption. Romans 8:22 reminds us, “the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.” That’s intense groaning! That final redemption has not happened yet, but we wait in hope for the Day. The Spirit is currently helping us in our weakness, but the Spirit also revealed to John the Apostle that the world is not going to be subject to this groaning forever. One day, the Lamb will step forth, take the scroll and begin the process of the earth’s redemption and restoration. When Jesus takes the scroll, according to the Spirit, every living creature will break out in praise, thanksgiving and worship. It’s hard to imagine but not hard to believe. The next time you are frustrated with the created order, stop for a minute and remember the promise that “every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea…will say, “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
