Sometimes vulnerability is a positive trait. When someone is honest, open to criticism and transparent they are described as “vulnerable.” However, there is a downside to vulnerability. Vulnerable can also mean susceptible to or capable of being hurt, harmed or damaged. For example, periodically, through no fault of their own, children are found in vulnerable circumstances. We should do our best to help reduce their vulnerability. Sometimes, through our own choices, we make ourselves vulnerable to spiritual danger. I read this statement recently, “Failure to worship leaves us vulnerable to every voice, seduction and siren.” What the author was trying to emphasize is that worship is a proactive step in spiritual self-defense. There are many temptations, many voices, many seductive appeals for our heart. If we are living a lifestyle of worship, we will be far less vulnerable to these dangerous calls. They will still be present, but if we are caught up with a more beautiful Vision, a more peaceful Voice and a more life producing Vine, we’ll be far less inclined to give the dangerous calls a second look or listen. This weekend, try to think of praise and worship as a militant proactive step to protect you from the attacks of the world, the flesh and the devil.
