“A Pile-up”

We are emerging from a hard winter. Driving has been treacherous. There have been numerous massive accidents sometimes referred to as “pileups.” Many people were all trying to get somewhere and their paths converged due to ice, snow, fog or a combination of all of it. Palm Sunday could be called a pileup. Soldiers, pilgrims, religious leaders, disciples and Jesus all converged in Jerusalem on the same day. There were different reasons for being there and more than a few agendas, but Jesus intentionally merged into the traffic resulting in a week-long pileup. Tempers flared, woes were pronounced, tables were flipped, people that were making money from religion were booted and soldiers were on high alert for any whiff of an attempted overthrow. There was only one Person in town that day that knew what was going on—Jesus. The One that would give His life as a ransom for many knew exactly what was happening and why. We celebrate Palm Sunday because it was the day when the lanes of Heaven, earth and hell all merged. It resulted in only one death that we know of.
