When God calls on us, we do not need to fear. Fear does crazy things. Irrational fears make us do crazy things that are funny to the people around us. Have you ever been around a person who fears spiders? All of a sudden one comes in view from fifteen to twenty feet away and they jump, scream and run in the other direction. Some fears cause us to freeze, hide, pretend it does not exist, but one thing we do not need to fear is the call of God. Over and over in Scripture we see God remind us that we don’t need to fear and then He tells us why. Isaiah 41:10; “Fear not, for I am with you…”. Isaiah 41:13; “… Fear not; I will help you.” Deuteronomy 31:6; “Do not fear.… He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
In the section of Judges 6 that we will be in this Sunday, we see Gideon living in fear, hiding from the oppressors when the Lord calls on him. The first words out of the angel of the Lord’s mouth were “The Lord is with you…”. This Sunday we are going to look at this calling and see that when the Lord calls, we don’t have to fear our circumstances, our view of ourselves, or the lies the enemy has told us. When the Lord calls, we can have confidence because He is with us.
