If you have ever watched a “trailer” for a movie, you know that the point of the preview is to pique your interest to get you to watch. They never show the most boring scenes, they always show something dramatic or dangerous or funny. What if the Revelation of Jesus Christ was made into a movie? What would be on the two-minute promotional video? There are people that would put the ideas found in Revelation in the genre of science fiction or religious fiction. The movie would be in the same category as those containing aliens, super-heroes and parallel worlds. Sometimes we get lulled into thinking that all that “stuff” is the same, that the only things that are real are what we can see and feel right now and right here. That we have capacity and creativity to imagine some of the “other-worldly” plot lines that people come up with should be a sign to us that something more than what we can currently see and feel has the potential of being real. That the Revelation of Jesus Christ is a glimpse of that kind of world should not be that hard to believe given the rest of the Scripture, the fulfillment of prophecies, the glory of creation and the 2,000 year old message of the gospel. Jesus is coming back one of these days. That’s not fiction, that’s fact.
