“Connect the Dots”

Some of my best artwork has been achieved by connecting the dots. Seriously. It’s a fun way to draw because if you can follow numbers, you can draw a picture. It won’t win at Art Prize but at least it will be recognizable. Sometimes Bible Study is like drawing with the dots. One must connect one place to another place until a clearer picture is obtained. There are 66 Books in the Bible. They were written by 40 different authors in different places and at different times in various genres of literature. This was done over about a 1500-year time span making the Bible the most remarkable Book ever assembled. When considering Bible doctrine, one really needs to consider the “whole counsel of God.” Sometimes we need Moses, David, Isaiah and Jesus with commentary by Paul to sort things out. A lot of dots need to be connected. Themes develop that start in Genesis and end in Revelation. Sometimes we refer to these themes as “threads” that run through the Bible. We’ll be looking at one of those threads this week, connecting some dots that start in the Law, continue through the Psalms, the Prophets and into the New Testament. This Advent thread runs through Isaiah but he wasn’t the only one who wrote about the Rock that doesn’t roll.
