We’ve had a lot of weddings this year. I have asked this question many times, “Do you promise to love, honor and trust him/her in sickness and in health, adversity and prosperity, and to be true and loyal to him/her so long as you both shall live.” The expected answer is, “I do.” It would be quite unsettling if the bride or groom said, “No way.” Weddings are about promises made before God and “these witnesses.” A legal document is signed by the people getting married and their witnesses. The bride and the groom are making a covenant to be ever and only for one another through good and bad. It’s not to be taken lightly. Part of the reason the marriage covenant is so serious is because it is a picture of a greater and more permanent relationship. Jesus ratified a covenant, a New Covenant, with His blood. He promised that whoever entered into relationship with Him by faith would be saved, transformed and kept forever and ever in a home prepared by Him. We’re planning to gather around the Lord’s Table for Communion this week to be reminded of the New Covenant. Be encouraged to know that Jesus keeps His Word and if you are a believer, you are secure in Him for eternity. A promise made by Him is a promise kept.
