Both David and Samuel made it into the “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11. They obtained a commendation from God because they believed Him. They trusted God. They were men of faith. Biblical faith is always accompanied by a choice of one kind or another. People who believe God either do or don’t do something because they have made a choice to trust God. When we wait on God, we wait by faith. When we leave vengeance to God, we defer by faith. When we give rather than hoard, we give by faith. Every day that we live as believers we have faith choices. In both the Old Testament and New Testament, we’re reminded that “the just (justified) live by their faith.” The initial choice to believe God for the forgiveness of sins is confirmed by the ongoing choice to trust God. The apostle John wrote, “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” Believe is followed by believing. This is the way to Kingdom life, to eternal life, to the flourishing life that Jesus promised. We’ll see another example of David’s ongoing faith in the message this week.
