As a country we are celebrating a birthday this weekend. The United States of America is turning 249 this year. What a country! Whether you consider our great nation a constitutional federal republic or a representative democracy, we have had quite a remarkable history. It hasn’t been all sunshine and roses since 1776 but despite the struggles, the prosperity this country has enjoyed is unique. It is interesting that while we are one of the wealthiest nations in the world, we are not the happiest. In fact, we’ve hit a new low coming in this year at #24. With all our resources and all our blessings, you’d think we’d make the top 5 but we’re actually sinking emotionally in comparison to other nations. There are many opinions as to why this is the case but one of them certainly has to be our disappointment with the promises and/or deceptions of government officials. When we put our hope in human beings, our hopes are sure to be disappointed. Whichever side of the aisle you are on, look beyond the red and blue to the party of the Lamb. Fix your eyes on the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Whatever nation believers are in, they are a part of a Kingdom that will not end. The dominion of our Lord Jesus Christ will never pass away. He keeps His promises. He meets the needs of His people. He is available 24/7. “Lord, let Your Kingdom come!”
