The Holy Women

One of the lies that the enemy likes to disseminate among people is that the Bible authors were down on women. He wants us to think that the writers of Scripture considered women inferior to men. He misuses the words “submit” and “reverence” taking them out of context in order to build his hideous case. The enemy, of course, hates the idea of submission. He refused to take his place among the angelic rank and file and lost his status among the chief of angels. Now, he sows seeds of discord and contempt for anyone that suggests that submission and cooperation is holy. The enemy’s way is rebellion and self-assertion. His way results in chaos and disorder. The craving for independence and “doing it my way” is a subtle wind from hell. In truth, the Bible treats men and women with equality. They are both made in the image of God. They are coheirs of the grace of life. In Christ, there is neither male or female. There are women heroes in both Old and New Testament—and you should read the story of Judith in the Apocrypha! It is true that there are Bible verses commanding wives to submit to their husbands. It is also true that there are verses that command them to submit to one another in the fear of God. That there are roles, authority, headship and commandments in the Bible is without dispute. However, the inner spirit that is expected of wives is also expected of men and children. Since the word submission is culturally loaded because of the enemy’s lies, I like to use the word cooperation. Because of the inner beauty and character of the holy women of old, they respected their husbands and cooperated with them. They are honored in the Word. Sarah is the matriarch of these holy women of God, she is honored by God Himself! That is a commendation for eternity.
