Killing Jesus

Bill O’Reilly wrote a book with that title. His two previous books in that series were “Killing Lincoln” and “Killing Kennedy.” O’Reilly is Catholic and believes that Jesus is the Christ but his book would not be considered a Christian book or a work of theology. I would put it in the “true crime” genre. It’s not really a biography, it’s an analysis of the most famous murder in the past 2,000 years. The Scripture reminds us that Jesus came “in the fullness of time.” In other words, the timing was just right. There were many historical, cultural, spiritual and prophetic reasons that the timing was perfect. Romans wanted a true benevolent king, the Jews wanted the Messiah, the cynics wanted something to believe in, the peasants wanted a Savior, the sinners wanted forgiveness and the world groaned for the Creator to make a way for the new creation. When Jesus entered Jerusalem on the day we call Palm Sunday, the match was put to the fuse. The moment the world needed would come, all the pieces were in place and the most heinous crime ever committed resulted in the greatest deliverance ever imagined. God took the ultimate evil and turned it around to accomplish the ultimate good. The events of this next week are worth remembering as Holy Days because all of eternity hinges on what happened from Sunday to Sunday. “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!”
