Wednesday Recap
What is success? Is it money, fame, comfort, good health, family? None of those things are wrong in-and-of-themselves, but is that really the definition of success?
The world will tell you that you need these things to be successful. But Jesus values things differently than the world. He says, "The first shall be last". "The be great, you must serve." "Love your enemies." "You will be exalted through humility."
In Matthew chapter 5 we see eight ways that Jesus says you will be blessed.
Now, blessed does not simply mean that you are favored. Blessed means happy, blissful, or literally to be enlarged.
So, happy, blissful, or more to more enlarged are those who ....
1. Poor in Spirit - those who are humbled before God and are not puffed up
2. Those who mourn - recognizing when they fall short of God's holiness and mourn that sin and desire to come back to a right relationship with the Father
3. The meek - using one's strength for God as we benefit others
4. Those who hunger/thirst for righteousness - they value the things God values
5. The merciful - those who actively show compassion and forgiveness
6. Pure in heart - those whose character is in line with God's
7. The peacemaker - those at peace with God and mankind
8. The persecuted for righteousness' sake - those who stand firm on the Gospel
These are eight ways you can be sure that you are having success. You will find joy, completeness and purpose in these because it helps us keep our focus on the Lord.
