Wednesday Recap

What a year at Thrive. This year we were able to overview seven different books of the Bible, answer twenty-eight different Hot Topic questions that were answered by elders, small group leaders, students, and myself. We studied things like salvation, repentance, how to share your faith, what is Truth, facts of the resurrection, and many more things that came up during our study of Scripture.

This week as we wrapped up our year, we had an escape room where students were challenged to find L.A.R.R.Y..  L.A.R.R.Y. is a Longevity Automated Radical Regenerative Youth Device. For centuries people have been trying to live longer on this earth. Billions, if not Trillions of dollars are spent every year in the U.S. alone on the pursuit of looking younger and living longer.

As the students searched throughout their "labs" to discover the way to L.A.R.R.Y. they had to work together and follow clues. They searched for almost forty-five minutes.

Once everyone was back in the sanctuary to wrap up, we talked about what we are searching for in life. We looked at Matthew 13:44-46 where we see two parables Jesus tells His disciples about what the Kingdom of God is like. They are like individuals searching for value, finding it, and selling all they have to obtain it.

No, we are not trying to get you to sell all your possessions to become a Christian, but when we see how valuable the treasure in the field was and how valuable the pearl that was found by the merchant, we see that they did everything they could to obtain it. Jesus gives us a promise to join Him in the Kingdom and when we find the Truth, we should be as excited as the two mentioned in these parables.

Additionally, we see how much He loves us and that He is searching for us through the parables of the lost sheep, coin and son found in Luke 15. In each parable something was lost. In the first two parables, the owners searched high and low looking for what was lost until they found it. The lost son story is a little different. When the son realized he was down, he returned home and upon seeing him from far away the father ran to embrace him. In all three stories, the lost was found and there was a great celebration. "Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

So, what are you searching for? Because God is searching for you.
