Wednesday Recap

How would your peers describe you? Sure, we can have our closest friends write a review of us or be our reference on an application, but what would the average person who is around us say about us?

In 3 John, we see three different individuals mentioned by name, two good, and one... not so good. As John is writing his dear friend Gaius, we see a few characteristics that we ought to desire in ourselves. He loves the truth. He is not a liar, manipulator, believing everything he hears; he loves the truth. He also is known by those around him to walk his talk. He is not a hypocrite. 

The other good example we see comes at the end of this short book, Demetrius. He is respected by all and desires truth as well. 

The not so good example is Diotrephes. His example should give us great warning, both to stay away from leaders like him as well as to not allow ourselves to end up like him. He only puts himself first. He does not listen to the truth. He talks lies about the believers, and he refuses to welcome believers who he does not agree with. This personality contradicts Scripture that tells us to put the needs of others first. Be unified in Christ. Don't think too highly of yourself. 

Which character would others compare you with? My prayer is that they would compare you to the first two.
