I'm New

Thank you for considering a visit to Calvary.  We realize there are many other places you can go and other activities you can choose on Sunday; it would be our privilege to have you join us.  When I’m on vacation or out of town and I visit a church, I’m always a little nervous and self-conscious.  I feel like everybody knows “I’m new” and I’m worried because I don’t know the expectations.  I’d like to share a few things with you that may help put you at ease so you can relax and enjoy your time with us...if you decide to visit…and we hope you do!

  • 01First, there is no dress code.  You don’t have to wear “church clothes” (whatever that means), just plan to be comfortable.  What we are trying to accomplish has more to do with our inner life than our outer life.
  • 02Second, the coffee is free.  If you don’t like coffee, there is tea.  If you don’t like either one that’s okay too.
  • 03Third, you don’t have to sing if you don’t like to.  If you want to sing loud, that’s okay even if you can’t sing.  We don’t have any spies listening to evaluate you.
  • 04Fourth, financial contributions are optional.  We are not after your money.  I speak on money specifically about once a year.  I may mention it other times, but we really try to make sure that money is a servant and not a master.  So, we’ll do our best to make Jesus and a relationship with Him the “big deal” and everything else secondary.
  • 05Fifth, many of the people who attend Calvary regularly carry a Bible with them.  It is not a rule.  Quite a few people have a Bible on their “electronic device.”  That works.  If you don’t have a Bible but you would like one, we have a Bible for you.  It includes helpful notes and some basic explanation about various subjects found in the Bible.
  • 06Sixth, if you are interested in learning more about our church, baptism and/or church membership, I teach a class every few months called “Discover Calvary.”  You are welcome to join us with no obligation.  Just watch the bulletin for details or let me know if you have questions.
  • Finally, if you have children, we use a check in system and printed tags to ensure that your child is properly registered and can only be picked up by you. Your child’s safety is very important to us.  We are implementing various security and safety measures on an on-going basis and while this makes things a bit cumbersome at times, we believe the well-being of your children is worth it.

If you have other questions, please check with the personnel at the Welcome Center or contact us by phone, email or “snail” mail.

For the King and His Kingdom,

Mark Shaw, Pastor-Teacher
