Worship is an activity including the celebration
of God’s goodness, recognition of God’s greatness and submission to His
authority. Worship is personal and corporate. Worship includes praise,
thanksgiving, music, prayer, giving, serving, preaching, listening etc. Our
worship services are designed to be the corporate culmination of our personal
worship through out the week.
Much is made these days about
“style of worship.” Worship should not be about style. Worship is about God! We
are to worship Him in spirit and in truth. Whenever we focus on “style”
(whatever that means), our focus is not on God. If we are pre-occupied with
instrumentation, song type or performance we are not preoccupied with God
Himself. We gather to worship Him and true worship is ultimately our heart
response to God Himself.
The only requirement Jesus gave us
for worship is that we worship in spirit (authentically) and in truth
(accurately). That means we come to Him as we are and recognize Him for who He
is.
We do not focus on a particular
“so-called” style but with diversity and unity we worship the living God in
spirit and in truth.
