Wow, This Stinks!! PDF E-mail
To the people present in Bethany it seemed like Jesus was four days late.  In fact, in the Middle-Eastern climate it really looked and smelled that way!  Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days and the process of decay was underway.  Nothing that I know of is quite as nasty a smell as decaying flesh.  So, when Jesus told the people to remove the stone, Martha was absolutely right when she said, "By now he stinketh."  As we will see (Lord willing) on Sunday, there is more to this story than meets the eye.  The brief history of Lazarus is a picture of the world and of much of what we see on a daily basis.  I see a lot that stinks.  Broken people, broken homes, broken lives, broken kids...sometimes it seems too late.  What are you smelling these days?  Do you think the initiative of Jesus can make a difference?

"15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16To the one we are the smell of death; to the other ..."

Some will always smell death and many will smell life: and that abundant - "in the black".
So in whatever I do I choose life ...
"in Christ and through us spreads ..."
2 Cor 2:14-16

thinking about what we smell like to the people around us. Do they see as a stench of death or the sweet smell of life?
I choose the second, however, it's challenging ...

The outside reminds me of the Third Day song, 'Healing Rain',,,rain leaves a clean smell too. I am so grateful that my heavenly Father is so willing to keep on healing and in the midst of our smell.

Some that had seen Lazarus raised from the dead did not believe. The Pharisees allowed their power and position to blind them from the truth. We need to let Jesus make a difference in our life.
